Community
A safe space where you can be yourself. No pressure, no pretending.
Viet Up is an association of young people of Czech-Vietnamese origin. We create a space to meet, understand each other and build projects that bring the Vietnamese community closer to Czech society – and the other way round.

Our story
At the end of 2015 a group of friends noticed that the Czech Republic had no place where young Vietnamese could simply meet each other. Many of us grew up in a Czech environment, often without a single Vietnamese friend – while carrying questions about identity, roots and the gap between generations that nobody discussed out loud.
We started with meet-ups, quizzes and Lunar New Year (Tết) celebrations. 2016 brought the first Banán Fest and the first Czech-Vietnamese ball. Step by step we opened the doors to the older generation and to the Czech public, and in 2018 the informal group became the registered association Viet Up, z.s.
Today we connect the community and the wider society through the Den Vietnamu festival, Story Night evenings, the Viet Kieu stories, trips to Sapa and the photo exhibition Little Hanoi, Next Generation. What we started with still holds: we want everyone to find their people here.
We try to show Czechs that we are not just the ones who cook pho, that we have our own music, dance and theatre. And at the same time we want to educate the young Vietnamese generation.
What we build on
A safe space where you can be yourself. No pressure, no pretending.
